Alright, folks, let's be honest. A flat tire can really deflate your road trip vibes. But hey, no worries! With our simple step-by-step guide, you'll be back on the road faster than you can say 'Pura Vida'!
Getting Ready
Before you get started, make sure you have these tools handy: a spare tire (of course!), a jack, a lug wrench, and wheel wedges.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Find a Safe Spot:
If you're on the road, steer your car to a safe, flat location away from traffic. Turn on your hazard lights for safety.
2. Use Your Wheel Wedges:
These go in front or behind the tires to prevent the car from moving while you work. Safety first, amigos!
3. Loosen the Lug Nuts:
Use your lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire (turn counterclockwise). Don’t remove them just yet!
4. Lift Your Car:
Place the jack under the car frame near the flat tire. If you're not sure, check your car’s manual. Start lifting. Remember, righty-tighty (clockwise)!
5. Remove the Lug Nuts and Flat Tire:
Now you can fully unscrew the lug nuts and take off that pesky flat tire.
6. Mount the Spare Tire:
Lift the spare onto the hub. Align the rim with the lug bolts and push the spare all the way onto the car.
7. Replace and Tighten the Lug Nuts:
Put the lug nuts back on and tighten them up by hand.
8. Lower Your Car:
Slowly lower your car back to the ground using the jack and then remove the jack.
9. Give the Lug Nuts a Final Tightening:
With the car back on the ground, you can now tighten up those lug nuts as much as possible.
10. Check Tire Pressure:
Before you zoom off, make sure your spare tire has enough air pressure. Your car manual will let you know the correct amount.
After the Change
Once you've successfully changed the tire, give yourself a pat on the back. Nice work! Now, remember to get your flat tire fixed or replaced as soon as possible. Spare tires are not made for long or high-speed drives.
Also, a quick reminder: if you're renting a car through FlynCar and experience a flat tire, be sure to let the car owner know.
